Why not blog about what your church is doing right, and good, rather than knocking the influence of some the most prominent and influential churches in America. As Pastor Rick might say, there is a big difference between having popularity and having significance.

As with anything, sin can (and does) taint even good things. The rise of the integration of online content into the daily life of the average citizen is certainly a reason for believers to utilize it to the Glory of God. Tools that are highly scalable and able to be leveraged quickly are wonderful in the size and scope that they can bring to a given mission or movement. I do, however, fear the potential fall from such a rapid rise and height that comes to some individual figures that find themselves as the public face of a given platform. Pride is in us all and large-scale, fast-delivered affirmation that can come from an online presence is something to be humbly guarded against as it has gotten the best of many church leaders in our past and cause some drastic and lasting harm to those they initially intended to serve. At the end of the day, though, I am grateful that the Lord has chosen to give us access to tools like the internet to use for His glory. In an effort to redeem an often overlooked and under-utilized space in our daily lives, I've put together a company that attempts to take the charge from Deuteronomy 6 to write God's words on the doorposts of our homes and applied that thought to the doorposts that we wear by creating Christian clothing designs paired with theological lessons for use in equipping believers to converse more in their daily lives regarding the Word of God.

Good stuff can travel so unbelievably fast. So can gossip and half-truths. Venom that used to take days or weeks to distribute, can be diseminated in minutes, and do vast damage before it can be stopped. Like any other tool social media can cut both ways. We have to be very aware and very careful.

If you are truly going to judge a movement you should really study and learn more about what God is doing. This is all about encouraging one another to a greater relationship with Jesus. This is very typical discussion of why the church is so divided. We tend to see the big toe working and as a thumb we tell it it is doing it all wrong. Let’s take the desire of Paul and ask that you do with all of your ability what God has called you to do. But let us also bear with one another in love and in gentleness. I am seeing lives changed through the efforts that have been made. Thank you Ryan for you committment to the Gospel and to the word of God. By the way, a new Bible study starts on Monday at MOJ. Check it out.

No, don’t think I’ll be buying one of those t-shirts. I’m not big on commercializing Jesus or the Gospel. It gets to my point about bringing Him down off the throne rather than us trying to grow up toward Him.

I subscribe more to a Reformed theology, so there will be some disagreements, I’m sure. Some may chalk it up to “disputable matters”, but even in disputable matters, one way is more likely to do a better job pointing toward the cross than the other.

I’m looking forward to interesting exchanges here.

Blessings all…

This discussion has gotten a lot of additional mileage since my first post. What a great testimony when you look at churches like Willow Creek, North Point, Saddleback, LifeChurch and many others including 12Stone and Passion City. All of these are embracing cutting edge technology in presenting the Gospel worldwide. My prayer is that we all are compelled to learn from our experiences, including discussions like this, so that we can apply what we have learned towards winning the lost for Christ and not for the sake of debate 🙂 1 Thes 5:17

No two Christians agree on everything. I won’t judge your entire worldview based on your one comment. Hope you won’t judge mine either.

But I guess you won’t be buying one of these new t-shirts from Men of Jesus. 😉

Alexander about the wife comment, and even add that Paul’s comment about sharing the “hot wife” comment with God “over coffe” is not only totally inappropriate; it points out a signficant flaw in many contemporary churches: that of bringing God–the Creator of the Universe–down to a level that he is our “spiritual buddy.” We have, it seems, dethroned the Almighty and made him just another one of our social network contacts. And to even suggest that you (Paul) would consider asking God if he wanted to see a picture of your “hot wife” makes me question the strength of and commitment to a complete and total Christian worldview.

I’m new to this site and blog, but sorry Paul…I don’t get a positive Christian impression from your comment, with all due respect and Christian love…

Jessie Douglas
