Chris, I definitely agree. PNG certainly had its own problems, specifically with transparency. The development community as a whole seems to be embracing the WebP format for now, but I certainly agree with your comment that it's going to take some time before it sees widespread use.

But that's going to be awhile. When the PNG format was introduced several years back, it took a long time for designers to really get comfortable using it, especially since IE wasn't rendering its colors the same as everyone else. After a javascript hack was discovered to fix alpha transparency and such for IE, web designers started using it a lot more, but it's probably still not as widely used as jpeg. All this to say, WepP seems like a promising new format, but I'm sure it's going to be awhile until it finds widespread use. But, sure, I'll give it a chance!
