On the other hand there was One who was completely selfless. When you divide by 0 you get Trust = Infinity. 🙂

Because the major factors in becoming ‘One of Us’ is earning the Trust; something done by showing that to be true and not just saying it.
The showing is all those points; listening, being present, etc

Yes, I am that nerdy. The equation shows that S(self-orientation) busts up all the positive influence you’ve garnered. I’m throwing in some numbers to demonstrate, using a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the highest. Suppose your C(credibility) = 9, R (reliability) = 7, and I (intimacy) = 4. See the difference below where S (self-orientation) is non-existent to S = 3. For fellow math nerds, we aren’t dividing by 0. =)

(C x R x I)/S = T
(9X7X4) = 252 OR (AVG 8.4 out of 10)
(9X7X4)/3 = 84 OR (AVG 2.8 out of 10)

You are so right Brandon, this applies to all relationships, both on/off line. Another old saying…’people don’t care how much you know ’til they know how much you care’. Build relationships first, then influence can happen.

It’s a by-product of the “feel good” culture of the 70s and 80s.

No matter the relationship – online or offline – it is improved when we put others first.

Didn’t someone say “Love your neighbor as yourself”? Although you need to love yourself to do that, you don’t have to tell everyone about yourself before loving that neighbor.
