This Summer Website Change WILL Change Your Life

    church website team

Are you the only one who updates your website?

    Probably so.

Most church websites and small business, ministry and school websites are managed by one person.

What happens when you go on vacation, are out of town on business, get sick or are super busy?

Either the website doesn’t get updated or you struggle to get the website updated even though you’d rather be doing something else, right?

    There is a better way.

    Delegate

Wouldn’t you prefer to have someone who could share the website work with you?  Someone who could cover for you when you’re out?  Someone to bounce ideas off of?  Here’s how to do it:

    1. Find a smart, responsible volunteer or coworker.
    2. Share about the mission. Tell them how important the organization’s website is.  For most people, it’s their first impression of your organization.  For regulars it’s their go-to source for news and info on up-coming events.  It’s the hub of your communications.
    3. Ask them to join your team.  Even if it’s just a team of two for now.
    4. Train them.  Write down instructions for what you’d like them to do (Google Docs is ideal for this).  Show them how you do it.  Then observe and oversee as they do it for themselves.
    5. Oversee them.  Thank them and encourage them.  Correct them when necessary.

From a technical standpoint, you should give your new team member their own login for your website.  If you use OurChurch.Com’s WP-EZ Church Website Builder, you’ll need to make sure you have the Gold hosting package which supports multiple users.  If you need to upgrade, you can do so at MyOCC.

Yes, it takes some extra work up front to find, share, ask, train and oversee, but think about how awesome it will be to have a teammate to share the work with, especially when you’re away.

Let me leave you with some wisdom from Jim Collins…

An organization is not truly great if it cannot be great without you. -Jim Collins

    • Are you sharing website responsibilities with someone else?
    • If you are, share about what it was like to go from doing it all yourself to sharing responsibilities.
    • If you’re not – no more excuses – how are you going to get started?
