    Is your website an offender?

    Mark SteinbrueckBy Mark SteinbrueckFeb 3, 2014Updated:Jan 27, 20233 Comments2 Mins Read

You have had a website up for a while.  You think everything is going well with your website but is it really?  Below are some simple areas you can check on your website to make sure that your website isn’t repulsing visitors and recommended solutions to correcting these problems.

    • The header image repeated because there are too many items in the horizontal navigation menu.
      • Solution:
        • Shorten the wording of the navigation menu items.
        • Move some of the navigation items to be submenus of other primary navigation menu items.
        • Delete some of the navigation menu items.
    • Any part of your website that reads, “Under Construction”
      • Solution: Hide or remove any pages or parts of your website that read, “Under Construction”
    • The text is not easy to read because text color and background.
      • Solution:
        • Change the color of the text.
        • Increase the size of the text.
    • Too many menu items in the navigation menu.  There are too many items in the website’s navigation menu.  This can make it difficult to navigate your website.  Best website practices say there should not be more than 7 menu items in your main navigation menu.
      • Solution:
        • Move some of the navigation items to be submenus of other primary navigation menu items.
        • Delete some of the navigation menu items
    • Music plays automatically when someone visits the website.  Having music automatically play when someone visits the website may seem cool, but it can be distracting, annoying (especially when someone has visited the site multiple times) and can slow the loading of your website.
      • Solution:  In your website settings, un-check anything that would “auto-play” a media file when someone visits the website.  There will be varying specific instructions depending on your website builder

Is your website an offender of any of the items?  What other common website offenses do you see when visiting other websites?
