We all love great stories. Is your church telling them?

Mark SteinbrueckBy Mark SteinbrueckJul 23, 2018No Comments2 Mins Read

We are continuing Destinations Month at OurChurch.Com.  We are sharing ways that your church can make it’s website a destination that people will want to regularly visit.

Ever since the beginning of time, man has communicated with stories.  Stories are how people learn, are motivated, and inspired to take action.  It is also how people make connections with other people.

Here are just a few ways that we hear other people’s stories:

    • Books
    • Movies
    • Music
    • Documentaries
    • Social media
    • Online reviews (stories of products or services)
    • Every day conversation with others

Some of those examples are stories by those who are famous but others are stories by regular, everyday people.  And although we love to hear the stories of musicians, actors, and well known athletes, it is the stories of the “regular” people that we connect with best because we can identify with their situations and struggles.

We all have a story and God has created us to share those stories to reach others for Christ.

Think about the Bible… It is a huge compilation of stories of Christ’s love for us and how he used the stories of fellow sinners to bring Him glory.  If you want to have a great church website that people want to return to regularly, your church should be telling stories of those in your church.

At my church, they use various forms of media to tell these stories:

    • Live, in-person stories
    • Videos where those telling the stories are seen
    • Graphics with voice-overs by those telling their stories.
    • Slides of pictures of those who went on a mission trip or youth conference, while someone tells a story of the trip

All of these can be recorded and place on the church website.

We are all storytellers. We all live in a network of stories. There isn’t a stronger connection between people than storytelling. -Jimmy Neil Smith

With so many ways to tell stories of how Christ is working in the lives of those at your church, what way are you going to start telling stories at your church.  Post your comments below.
