As we continue our State of the Blogging Universe Series, today we shift from issues having to do with the set-up of a blog to blogging itself. In the next 3 posts I’m going to write about my absolute top 3 blogging tips.
Before I reveal what those tips are, I wanted to hear from other bloggers, so I asked people to send me their best blogging tips via Facebook and Twitter.

- Write about what you know, what you’ve experienced, or what you feel…not what’s popular. –Kevin Weatherby
- Be sincerely interested in people. Don’t ACT sincerely interested. BE sincerely interested. @JoePote01
- Always follow your heart and be honest with yourself, as well as with everyone else. @lanakaydove
- When blogging, try to finish with an action step for the reader to encourage participation. @nery_leal
- Be authentic, honor God, tell a story that leads to life transformation, have fun! @tammywerthem
- Add social share buttons that show counts (i.e. 45,323 twitter followers). It adds “social proof” to visitors. @cgcofnyc
- Be consistent and be focused. Don’t try to do too many good things, focus and be great! @brftpreachr

Here are a few from me: post regularly, know what you are writing about, make sure the tone isn't too deconstructive over several posts, make the blog look clean, link to your posts on facebook/twitter, etc., make your goal to give away something of benefit (rather than self-promote, make money, etc.) I've blogged for almost five years and still don't think of myself as a blogger, but thinking out loud and trying to help others through it has proved to be appreciated, increasingly in recent months.

As a christian and as a blogger, I suggest we try not to throw up unnecessary walls that would turn people off. I can't tell you how many people I have heard complain about "christian media," as generally sounding less educated, and that the writers seem to not have taken time to care about the grammar and syntax they throw around. Now, is this truly a "Christian" writers' problem? No, of course not. But when discussing God, it just doesn't take much to offend folks. Let's try to make sure to get ourselves out of the way, not just personally but also by editing carefully and thoroughly.
