If you’re looking for a way to do online registration or an online sign-up form, Google provides a simple and powerful option through Google Docs.
One of the document types that can be created in Google Docs is a form. In a Google Docs form you can add all the typical field types including text boxes for things like contact info, multiple choice options, and paragraph boxes for comments and additional information.
Some of the great benefits of using Google Docs forms include:
- When a person completes the form, their info is automatically stored in a Google Docs online spreadsheet.
- When a person completes the form, it automatically logs the date and time.
- Access to the spreadsheet can be shared with other people on staff if you choose.
- You can opt to receive email notification when someone completes the form.
- Unlimited number of fields.
Uses
We used a Google Docs form for the 31 Days to Build a Better Blog sign-up and then another Google Docs form to survey 31DBBB participants after the project was finished.
Yesterday, we announced a new Bug of the Month Contest. We’re using a Google Docs form for the bug reporting.
While Google Docs forms don’t provide all the capabilities of a full-blown event registration system like we provide in our custom designed CMS-based sites, it beats the paper sign-up forms often seen in church lobbies and provides an easy way to do online surveys as well.

We use google docs and forms all the time and they work great for things like sign-ups. The notifications work great so that you get an email whenever anyone submits a form. Notifications are key for any sort of collaboration system.
My church uses Google docs like it was born to do it. We use it for everything from production schedules to organizing out reaches. Only problem is that once we get it all set up, very few people actually know how to use it. There's a handful of us that use them to track a few key projects going on, but for the most part we tell people to sign up for this that or other using this google doc, and they just get a blank look on their face.
Maybe you could do some training in your ministry team meetings.

Our church is doing VBS next week. I wonder if anyone has used Google Docs for VBS registration? If so could you point me to your doc so I could look at it?
I haven't heard of anyone using a Google Docs form specifically for VBS registration, but I don't see why you couldn't.
We use gdoc forms periodically, I'd love to try to get a more widespread adoption of it.
