Destinations: Where Are You (and Your Website) Going this Summer?

    Paul SteinbrueckBy Paul SteinbrueckJul 11, 2018Updated:Jul 26, 20182 Comments3 Mins Read

Did you know thinking about your summer vacation destination can help you make your church website better?

    Let me explain…

This summer our family was blessed to be able to take a wonderful vacation in New York City.  Why New York?

We celebrated my parents’ 50th wedding anniversary.  They were married in New York and lived their first 10 years of marriage together there. We have extended family in NYC we wanted to visit. And my children, nephews and nieces have never been to New York and wanted to experience some things you can only see and do in New York like the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Freedom Tower, and a Broadway show.

We went to New York because it’s a great destination for our family.

People ask me all the time, “Paul, how can we get more people to visit to our church website?”

That’s usually followed by the observation that even most of the members of the church rarely or never go to the church website.

I usually respond with a question of my own, “Why do you think someone should want to go to your website?”

Usually that question is met with blank stares.

Every website we go to, we go to for a reason.

We want people to go to our church website just because they’re a part of our church, but nobody does that. We’re all busy. We don’t visit any website just to see if there is anything new or interesting there. Therefore…

If you want people to visit your website regularly, you need to make it a destination.

    • What content can you put on your website on a regular basis that people would want to come back for day after day or at least once a week?
    • What resources could you add to your website that would be helpful to people in your community? (Beyond information about your church, its worship services and other events)

July is Destinations Month at OurChurch.Com

We’re going to be blogging all month about ways you can make your church website a more valuable destination for your members and your community.  We’ll be sharing our best ideas and explaining how to implement them as quickly and easily as possible.

    1. Sermons
    2. Blog
    3. Photos
    4. Surveys (to learn what content people in your church want)
    5. Godly Guidance
    6. Stories
    7. Resource Guide

Also, you can help by giving us your feedback on different types of “destination content.” Please complete this month’s survey.

In the mean time, let’s have some fun this summer!  Answer this simple question…

Destinations: Where are you going this summer and why?

Paul, you the nail on the head. I have been asking that question. How do I get the congregation to visit our website? I have been so frustrated that members of the church do not go on the church’s website. They don’t comment when they do. I look forward to this month’s Blog Series.
