The Importance of Creating Systems for Your Website Maintenance

    Mark SteinbrueckBy Mark SteinbrueckNov 2, 2015Updated:Jan 26, 2023No Comments3 Mins Read

As we head into November, OurChurch.Com is turning 19 years old.  It is amazing the journey we have taken over the past two decades.  About 10 years ago, we figured out the importance of creating systems and processes for OurChurch.Com.  As a result, we went through nearly every aspect of our business and typed up the step by step process to complete tasks.  This was not an easy undertaking.  In fact, it was very time consuming and tedious.  However, going through these steps accomplished the following goals:

    1. We eliminated doing things that were not beneficial.
    2. We modified some of the processes to make them more efficient.
    3. It eliminated the need to rethink what needed to be done every time did those “once in a while” tasks.
    4. Gave instructions that co-workers could follow when someone was on vacation.
    5. Step-by-step instructions gave less skilled people the ability to perform tasks that were often too complicated for them.
    6. It gave instructions for new staff if we expanded or someone left the company.

Although doing this can be helpful in all aspects of your organization, it can be especially helpful for keeping your website up to date.  Doing this will allow you to hire students or retirees or let you give less technical volunteers the needed instructions to create new pages, add pictures, upload audio and video.

In fact, OurChurch.Com has made this even easier for you.  If you have OCC build a custom website for you, you don’t even need to create the instructions yourself because we have already done it for you.  We have created over 65 video tutorials that will show you exactly how to do all kinds of updates.  All you need to do is create any instructions that are specific for your organization.

Does your organization have step by step instructions written to on the process of updating your website?  Do you have some processes written but still have a lot more work to do?  Even if you don’t have any instructions written already, there is no better time than the present to get started.  They don’t need to get done all at once, so start slow.  By doing this you will be amazed on where you will be in a year from now and how much your organization and staff will benefit from it.
