3D Movies are Here, 3D TV on the Way, Can the 3D Web be Far Behind?

    Paul SteinbrueckBy Paul SteinbrueckJan 21, 2010Updated:Feb 6, 202310 Comments1 Min Read

In 2009 we saw an explosion in 3D movies with at least 17 3D movies released including blockbusters Avatar and Up.  (How many can you name before peeking at the list?)

cnet is reporting that this spring TV manufactures will begin shipping 3D TVs and the first 3D TV channels will likely be on DirectTV in June.

While TV manufacturers will start by putting 3D technology into their higher end models, the 3D models are not much more expensive than the non-3D models.  As s result they’re expected to be widely accepted and filter down into the lower end models relative quickly.

That said, can 3D computer monitors be far off?

There’s at least one on the market already make by iZ3D.  Several video cards and many games already support 3D.

Are you ready for 3D graphic and web design?

      seeing is believing?
next think they'll be offering retina implant to jack-in into 3D movies – thats TVs and cinema.
      3D web Design?????
That will be awesome. Just not sure if I want to wear those glasses all the time – which brings me back to the retina implants ….

I'm thinking in the not too distant future we'll all wear special glass all the time that will not only do 3D but serve as the "screen" for our PDAs. We'll be able to adjust the translucence so we can totally black out the outside world or project info we want in front of us as we look at the outside world. But that's for another post.

Unfortunately, there will be a dark side to this. In the past 40 years, many consumer multimedia advances were fueled, or at least sustained, by the adult entertainment industry: VHS beating out BETAMAX, Online video formats, online credit card processing, streaming video, and more.

The addition of 3D technology is already being discussed, and I fear that it will produce even stronger addictions and more fragmented, isolated lives. It will also, I fear, be a stronger draw for young people who will, as always, fully absorb the new technologies into their lives almost from diapers.

This is not to say that I am against 3D! I will be "lusting" and "coveting" at Best Buy with all the other techno-philes. It is not the technology that is a problem, but Society's use of those technologies, and its tolerance for the unhealthy uses.

The Church needs to know what is coming down the pike, and be AHEAD of developments for a change.

      Just my $0.02US.

It's early, and the caffeine is still kicking in! <grin>

You're right, there will be a dark side, including more realistic porn and addictive fantasy games. But the upside is the potential for more better online church and more engaging relationships with people who are physically distant from us.

Clear and ultra-stable IPS hard screen. LG’s IPS hard screen provides clear and ultra-stable dynamic images, accurate colors, and large viewing angle for the whole family – KTC 3D TVs offer you a chance to enjoy a brand-new visual feast.
