    Turn visitors into subscribers

    The “List”…

For those of us in marketing (and if you have a website, you are in marketing), the list is a very important.

The list is all of those who have subscribed or signed up to receive communication from you.

Most of the time, the list is an email list, but it can also be a list of phone numbers and addresses.

However, for the purpose of this article, we will focus on prospect email address lists.

The list is very important because it is the best way to keep your audience informed and move people beyond “prospect” status.  – Mark Steinbrueck

    • If you are a church, a prospect may be someone interested in attending on Sunday or a specific program (youth group, Celebrate recovery, etc).
    • If you are a school, a prospect is the parent looking for a school for their child and the list is a way to let the know of tours of the school, registration dates, and FAQs.
    • If you are business, a prospect is potential customers and the list is a great way to let them know of new products and specials.

So how do you build your list with your website?

One of the best ways to build your list is to have an easy sign up form on your site.

However, because these visitors are not part of your organization yet, they will likely not give you their email address just because you asked.

You will likely need to give visitors something in order for them to give you their name and email address (don’t ask for more than their name and email address, you can get more information from them later).

    • For a church, you may offer a free Bible, devotional book, or voucher for the Wednesday night dinner.
    • A school may give a way a free school shirt, a discount on registration, or a $5 gift card to a local restaurant (find a restaurant willing to donate the gift cards;)
    • A church may offer a discount on their first purchase, a free product, or free shipping.

Many of these giveaways will need to be mailed to the person, so in order for them to receive it, they will need to give you their physical address.

Once they are on the your list, you have the ability to keep them informed and move them closer and closer to being a part of your organization.

What ways have you increased your list?  Post your comments below.
