For the past couple of weeks, I have been talking about how adding functionality to your website has never been easier. In last week’s post, I talked about some of the benefits of using WordPress. And although we use WordPress at OurChurch.Com to build our client’s custom websites, I think it is only fair to mention that WordPress does have drawbacks as well.
Below are 3 drawbacks to using WordPress or other open source CMS platforms:
- All developers are not equal. As a result, not all plugins are developed to the same standards. In addition, some developers don’t support their plugins well, while others provide excellent support.
- Hackers may target sites built using popular open source CMS platforms (WordPress, Joomla, Drupal).
- Sometimes plugins don’t play well with others. Because there are thousands of developers creating plugins, sometimes installing or updating plugins will cause glitches with other plugins. It is simply because developers will test their plugin to work well with the core WordPress platform but it is impossible for them to test it to ensure it works well will all other plugins.
After reading this, you may think to yourself, “Mark, if there are potential problems that would cause my site to malfunction, why would I want to use WordPress and how can I prevent issues like this from occurring?”
Next week, I will discuss the things that you can do to make sure that your website will not be a technical headache.
However, in the meantime, if you are tired of your old website and want to discuss how OurChurch.Com can take your web presence to the next level, please contact us here!
