Is that a Christmas tree in Wal-Mart?

    Mark SteinbrueckBy Mark SteinbrueckOct 20, 2020Updated:Oct 22, 2020No Comments3 Mins Read

We are in Strategic Planning Month at OurChurch.Com and discussing all the things a church should be doing to plan for the Christmas season as well as what things should be in place to ensure a successful church website in 2021.

I know it is still October but before we know it, December will be here and you’ll year Christmas music everywhere you go.

The Christmas season is the busiest time of the year for most churches.  Many people who don’t attend church regularly come to church during the month of December, especially on Christmas Eve.

So what does a church need to do to ensure their website is successful during the Christmas season for both the visitors and church members?

    Here are…

5 Things Every Church Should Do to Get Its Church Website Ready for Christmas:

    1) As soon as Thanksgiving has past, put your Christmas and Advent services schedule on the website.

    2) Create new graphics for the Christmas season in November, so they are ready to be used in December.  Prepare to change images used in the homepage slider and on other places on the homepage.

    3) Post Advent devotionals and/or Bible reading plans.  This doesn’t need to be complicated to too time consuming for the church.  Many churches are having Advent services each week or teaching on preparing our hearts for the celebration of Christ’s birth.  Take the scriptures that are being used for the readings or sermons and post them weekly to the church website.   Within each post, break it down to “Day 1”, “Day 2”, and “Day 3”, so it is more easily digestible.

    4) Plan 3-7 social media posts to be used each week in December.  Consider a variety of posts.  Some could have a Christmas related background image with a Bible verse from one of the Gospel’s Christmas story.  Some could ask a question about Christmas.  Something like “What’s your favorite Christmas song?” will get a lot of engagement or create posts that will challenge people to find peace by focusing on Christ rather than stress that comes from focusing on consumerism and human traditions.

    5) Create a master plan.  Create a plan for all of the above items and share it with all staff/volunteers involved, so they know what their responsibilities are and what content they will create, when (specific dates) it is due to be created, and when (specific dates) it will be posted to the website.  This way there is no ambiguity or confusion as to the who, what, and when for the website during the Christmas season.

    After all…

If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail.  -Benjamin Franklin
