Responsive Design: What Is It and Why It Is Important? (Part 2)

    Mark SteinbrueckBy Mark SteinbrueckFeb 17, 2015Updated:Jan 27, 202312 Comments1 Min Read

Last week I talked about how it is important that your website be responsive.  A responsive website adjusts the format and the way it is displayed based on the device being used to view the site.

I mentioned that one of the reasons it was important to have a responsive website was because of the website’s search rankings.  Google has now added something that is even more visible to boost the effectiveness of a website that is responsive or mobile friendly:

When using Google to do a  search on a mobile device, Google is now indicating if a website is Mobile Friendly.

So in addition to Google weighing a website’s mobile friendliness in the search rankings, it is likely that the human factor may be impacted as well, as people may be more likely to click on a website that has a “Mobile Friendly” classification over a website without it.

Have you noticed Google’s new “Mobile Friendly” indication when doing a search on a mobile device?  Has this impacted which websites you will click on in your search results?

Before a Web developer can create a successful website, he or she has to determine the actual purpose of the site. For example, sites that are designed for small, local brick-and-mortar businesses have to be different from sites that will allow their owners to operate their businesses online. Therefore, the developer will have to decide how to create your website so that it will be most effective for what you will be using it for before he or she can get started.

it is also very essential for upcoming Google’s update regarding mobile usability. People should know, if they are not having responsive design then they are definitely a victim of this update.

Yeah if you don't have a mobile friendly website you will be penalized by Google. Talk about how times have changed so quickly!
